White Bird in a Blizzard (2013)

At 17, Kat's mother disappears. In suburban America, she's left alone with her dad, her high school boyfriend, and the hot detective working on her mother's case. But the mother is traceless, and Kat is stuck in confusion, while life goes on. The film weaves together flashbacks and present time, and paints a picture of a typical suburban family, but where something is lurking under the surface. 

The whole film has a diffused shimmer about it, like a distant memory, more than a typical mystery case. Based on the novel by Laura Kasischke, and directed by Gregg Araki, and though it's one of the least Arakiesque film of his, the film still has his charm, as well as a lovely soundtrack.
