Mean girls, parties, suicide and gay sons. Heathers presented a nihilistic perspective on American teenage-anger, mental health and sexuality in the form of a black comedy. With fashion to spare, clique mentality and an outcast with access to guns, the film has become a premonition on the American normalization of teenage death, especially in relation to gun and school violence.
With subversive, biting irony of the teen-romantic-comedy being a hallmark of the film, this 1989 cult-classic is not one to miss.
