Mirror (1975)

Andrei Tarkovsky - Russia - 1975 - 107" - Russian, Spanish - English subtitles
On the eve of his death, a man looks back upon his life as if it were a dream. He remembers a childhood, cut short by the German invasion of the USSR. He thinks of characters who have come and gone, only to return as new characters, like actors in a play. Within each iteration of memory, the narrator's mother persists as a constant figure, a guiding light of resilience, and as an object of desire.
The semi-autobiographical work is considered by many to be Tarkovsky's magnum opus, wherein the narrator's personal moments tell a larger story of the Soviet Union during the early 20th century.
