Natural Born Killers – 35mm

This 1994 flick is an amalgam of two giants of 90s American film; Oliver Stone directing a screenplay by Quentin Tarantino. This highly stylized critique of mass-media presents us with a Bonnie & Clyde-esque narrative following criminal couple Mickey and Mallorey Knox, and their rampage through south-western America. Stone vibrantly directs the chaos in a way where you cannot help be enthralled, and the veritable smorgasbord of american actors truly get their chance to shine, in performances which get as far to the top as possible, without going completely over it.

As with several of Oliver Stones previous films, it was met with controversy when it was release, as many felt it went overboard with the stylization. Much of the inspiration for this style came through consuming mass-media at the time; and especially from watching MTV, according to Stone himself. This all serves makes the film an excellent time-capsule of its time, a fact that is further embellished by the chaotic score, produced by Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails fame.
